Me! (Just joking!)
When the dashing Manager, Marc Yeterian, at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel offered me an indigenous Andean sauna and took to me a small thatched dome I thought he was joking. It looked like any other thatched hut found in the villages of Rajasthan. But, no, this dome had a healthy purpose to it. Inside the dome the ceiling and walls were lined fully with eucalyptus leaves and in the centre of the dome lay a bed of hot Andean rocks. Beautifully set with a group of candles burning on one side, a pot of water on the other and a low wooden bench to sit on I was handed a bundle of Eucalyptus leaves to to feed the fire. Soon the steam was consumed by the eucalyptus leaves filling the room with a fresh natural aroma and of course the medicinal properties associated with this plant. I sat absorbing this and clearing my lungs for 40 mins before I jumped into the outdoor jacuzzi of their Unu Spa to watch the unfamiliar star patterns of the Southern sky. Oh what a life! |
